How often have we heard that teamwork is s a critical skill and an important asset to the business? Most organisations recognise that the capacity for team members to collaborate and share ideas and knowledge is key to advancing the organisation’s goals. In addition, being part of a team creates a sense of community and belonging, it contributes to the culture of the organisation and “how we do things around here”. It's great to be part of the work team aiming to achieve a the organisation’s goals – that sense of “we’re all in this together”. Teamwork certainly has its benefits and it's not surprising that millions are spent annually on teamwork training. Since the start of Covid-19 organisations have sought to determine how to foster teamwork in virtual and hybrid working environments significantly increasing teamwork training globally. 
 
There are a number of factors which support effective teamwork in the organisation including: 
 
1. Team and Organisational Goals 
Having a shared goal not only motivates team members but also unites them in pursuit of the organisation’s goals and objectives. It is important to communicate goals and progress towards them to all employees on a regular basis. 
 
2. Diversity and Inclusion 
Building teams with a mix of skills, opinions, and backgrounds and ensuring an inclusive organisation brings advantage to teams and the organisation. These teams tend to be successful in creating diverse ideas and problem their problem solving capabilities. 
 
3. Listening and Positivity 
Communication works both ways; team members must be heard and knowledge and ideas need to flow in both directions for effective teamwork. Listening to team members helps them feel their ideas are valued and builds a stronger connection to their work and the organisation. Remember, teams flourish in a positive environment so ensure as leader you remain positive especially during challenging times. 
 
4. Employee Recognition 
Acknowledge employees for work well done. This boosts morale, sustains enthusiasm and curiosity needed to achieve goals and objectives. There are many ways to acknowledge team members and it is advisable to do so in the most appropriate way for the individual. Some will welcome a public acknowledgement where others prefer private recognition. In addition ensure that you acknowledge the team when they achieve significant milestones. 
 
5. Collaboration Tools 
Digital collaboration tools improve teamwork in the virtual, hybrid and physical work environment. Selecting a collaboration tool promotes team communication and the sharing of project information, which offers team members a flexible way to work while keeping everyone connected and aligned to the project goals.
